Time Card Calculator

Enter your clock-in and clock-out times for the week, plus any unpaid lunch break in minutes. The calculator totals your hours and, if you add an hourly rate, your pay. Overnight shifts (out time earlier than in time) are handled automatically.

About the overtime line
The 1.5× past 40 hours/week breakdown follows the common US federal rule for non-exempt hourly workers. Some states use daily overtime, some jobs are exempt, and contracts can differ — so treat the split as an estimate and your pay stub or HR as the authority. This is arithmetic, not payroll or legal advice.

How this is calculated

Each day: hours = clock-out − clock-in − unpaid lunch minutes. If clock-out is earlier than clock-in, the shift is treated as crossing midnight and 24 hours are added first.

The weekly total is the sum of the days, shown in decimal hours and hours:minutes. Pay = hours × rate; with overtime on, hours past 40 pay at 1.5 × rate.

Common questions

How do I enter a lunch break?

Put the unpaid break length in minutes in the Lunch column — 30 for a half hour. Only unpaid time belongs there; a paid break shouldn't be subtracted.

How do decimal hours work?

Payroll usually uses decimal hours: 7 hours 30 minutes is 7.50, because 30 minutes is half an hour. The calculator shows both formats so you can compare against your pay stub either way.

What about overnight shifts?

If your clock-out time is earlier than your clock-in time, the calculator assumes the shift crossed midnight and counts it correctly. A 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM shift is 8 hours.

Can I use this for two weeks?

Run each week separately. Overtime under the common federal rule is figured per workweek, so adding two weeks together before applying overtime would give a wrong answer.
