Time and a Half Calculator

Time and a half means 1.5 times your normal hourly rate. Enter your rate to see it; add hours if you want to know what a stretch of overtime pays.

Time and a half rate: $30.00/hr

How this is calculated

Time and a half rate = regular hourly rate × 1.5.

Overtime pay = time and a half rate × overtime hours. At $20/hr, time and a half is $30/hr, and 5 hours of it pays $150.

When time and a half applies
In the US, the common federal rule pays non-exempt employees time and a half past 40 hours in a workweek. Holiday or weekend premium pay is a matter of employer policy or contract, not federal law. Rules vary by state and job — this page just does the multiplication.

Common questions

What is time and a half of $18 an hour?

$27 an hour — multiply the rate by 1.5. The same math works for any rate.

Do I get time and a half on holidays?

Not automatically under US federal law. Holiday premium pay exists only if your employer offers it or a contract requires it. Some states have their own rules.

How does this work if I'm salaried?

If you're salaried but non-exempt, your hourly rate is roughly annual salary ÷ 2,080 (52 weeks × 40 hours), and time and a half applies to that. If you're exempt, overtime pay generally doesn't apply.

Is this before or after taxes?

Before. These are gross figures; taxes and deductions come out afterward.
